Op 29 januari 2004 werden daar 2 nieuwe spellen gelanceerd in Japan: Pokémon FireRed en LeafGreen (Pokémon VuurRood en BladGroen). Die spellen kwamen in Noord-Amerika uit op 9 september 2004, en zijn de herziene versies met Pokémon Red en Blue. Deze spellen gaven tevens een mogelijkheid om de legendarische Pokémon Deoxys 2 andere vormen te geven, door deze tot ons bepaalde cartridge te sturen.
Evolutie hangt bij een Pokémon genaamd Eevee verder af van het tijdstip met een dag. Indien deze overdag evolueert via zijn blijheidsniveau is dit Espeon, doch 's avonds is het Umbreon (in de vierde generatie is het ook zo met overige Pokémon, Sneasel evolueert onder andere 's nachts (met een bepaald voorwerp) in Weavile).
